Every month, the Westmoreland County Food Bank recognizes an individual or group who went above and beyond in the fight against hunger. Whether it is repacking product in our warehouse, handing out food at an Operation Fresh Express or helping around the Delmont office, we couldn't do it without these individuals and groups.

Volunteer(s) of the Month: Emily Hoerner
Our 2010 August Volunteer of the Month is Emily Hoerner. Emily is attending American University, School of International Service in Washington, DC. She is interested in international relations and will be spending her junior year studying in Kenya in 2010-11. She graduated from Penn-Trafford High School, where she was the co-president of Community Action Program (CAP) for two years. She was familiar with the food bank because she had volunteered at our Operation Fresh Express food distributions several times. She decided to offer her services to the food bank throughout the summer, where she could gain hands on experience working at a non-profit service agency. During that time, she was dedicated to the Westmoreland County Food Bank’s Summer Food Service Program and Commodity Supplemental Food Program. She helped the Program Coordinator, by monitoring summer feeding sites throughout the county and entering data required for both program. We thank Emily for her positive attitude and her ability to be flexible and intuitive, when necessary. We wish her the best in the future.
